GET TO KNOW: WHIPPED CREAM

Meet Whipped Cream, the Vancouver Isl. based bad gal taking the industry by storm

PRIME: Give us a quick Whipped Cream 101.

WHIPPED CREAM: My name is Caroline, I was born in Toronto and am currently living on Vancouver Island. I'm 24 years old and I started producing at around 19/20.

PRIME: As a fellow female creative, I know that there's definitely bias in the industry, particularly as a producer. What would you say to all of the girls out there trying to make a name for themselves?

WHIPPED CREAM: This goes for anyone, male or female - it won't be easy. Don't give up. The positive effect you will have on other people will outweigh any negative stuff you go through. Believe in yourself wholeheartedly, because if you don't, it's going to be a lot harder. When sh*tty things or things you didn't expect happen, you have to be able to rely on yourself.

PRIME: Tell us about some of the inspiration behind your latest EP, "Persistence". Did you make those tunes while in a specific state of mind?

WHIPPED CREAM: I did. "Persistence" is a story I wanted to share deeply. Each song has deep value to me. The single "Persistence" shared a story of how life doesn't flow smoothly, but it is a beautiful journey if you stick with it. "Ignorant" is a story I felt was the most important on the album. At the time, I was frustrated with "people" looking over my work simply because I was a woman - not being treated equally, etc. This song represents those feelings I still continue to face in this industry. I have learned, though, that with effort you can change people's minds and you can also decide how other people make you feel - because ultimately, you make yourself feel those feelings. How people treat you or see you is a pure reflection of who they are. As for the track titled "Selfish" -  that was extremely personal to me, but it is to speak mildly on it a story of how I was walked on and taken for granted for selfish gain. My heart was broken.

PRIME: What has been the best piece of advice given to you thus far?

WHIPPED CREAM: From my father as a young child. "If it's got to be, it's up to me". That sh*t is literally my motto. You can't rely on ANYONE but yourself. You don't have to trust anyone but yourself.

PRIME: Who would be your dream collab?

WHIPPED CREAM: Wish Tupac and Hendrix were alive. Hmm...someone like Kanye West, Ferg, Tyler the Creator, Dog Blood, Frank Ocean, Active Child, Banks, Mabel, Andre 3000, Florence and the Machine or Lana Del Rey.

PRIME: What was the first electronic show/DJ set you ever saw?

WHIPPED CREAM: Active Child and Nero.

PRIME: What do you have in the works for 2018?

WHIPPED CREAM: A lot of original music that will continue my story, or shall I say, our story ;) I've never been more excited for a year in my life.

PRIME: Give a shout to your fanbase!

WHIPPED CREAM: I love you guys more than anything, y'all are the reason I create . Don't stop doin' what you love. More love. <3
